ARB 401 - Survival Arabic ( Fall )
The course covers a variety of familiar everyday expressions aimed at the satisfaction of needs of concrete type. Learners will develop the ability to introduce themselves and ask and answer questions about personal details; handle interactions such as taking a taxi, asking and giving directions; dealing with money; shopping for food, clothes, etc… and emergencies. Though Arabic letters are included, the emphasis is on the development of the learner’s speaking and listening skills.

Offered twice a year before the fall and spring semesters to International students joining AUC.

Learning outcomes: By the end of this certificate, the candidate can do the following:

1. Use the basic language needed to interact in concrete type situations.
2. Increase the ability to handle interactions such as taking a taxi, asking and giving directions; dealing with money; shopping for food, clothes, etc… and emergencies.
3. Give and receive information about quantities, numbers, prices etc…
4. Describe himself/herself, what he/she does and where he/she lives.
5. Understand and follow simple directions.
6. Ask for and provide personal information.
7. Ask and answer questions about habits and routines.
8. Answer simple questions and respond to simple statements in an interview.
