EAYL 507 - Oral Comm YL going to1st Secnd
Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to speak in English and to communicate efficiently in an English-speaking context. Learners will prepare material at home before coming to class. In class, they will work in pairs and groups on tasks to transfer their knowledge to real life situations. Learners will both dramatize a situation through role play and engage in debates and discussions about controversial issues. Attention will be given to pronunciation, stress and intonation and learner’s vocabulary repertoire will be expanded by the presentation and use of words related to every lesson.Prerequisite: Successful completion of Preparatory 3.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the main idea and supporting details of spoken texts.
2. Practice speaking extensively about an issue and sustain a 5-7 minute conversation.
3. Discuss a wide variety of engaging topics/texts at some length.
4. Discuss the merits and demerits of a controversial issue in a debate/discussion.
5. Dramatize a situation through a 5-10 minute role play.
6. Make presentations discussing a variety of topics focusing on the pros and cons of various options.
7. Use a wide range of vocabulary pertinent to the topics covered in the course.
8. Enunciate clearly enough to be understood 80% of the time.

Course title: Oral Communication for Young Learners (1st Secondary).

Term duration: 2 Weeks

Schedule: 3 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Two continual assessments are used throughout the course on speaking skills to measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The course final grade is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures. Final course grades are NOT based on attendance.
