EAYL 505 - Oral Comm YL going to 2nd Prep
Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to speak in English and to communicate efficiently in an English-speaking context. Learners will prepare material at home before coming to class. In class, they will work in pairs and groups on tasks to transfer their knowledge to real life situations. Learners will practice speaking extensively about a topic and sustain a three-minute conversation. Attention will be given to pronunciation, stress and intonation and learner’s vocabulary repertoire will be expanded by the presentation and use of words related to every lesson.Prerequisite: Successful completion of Preparatory 1. Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 1. Identify the purpose of a listening text. 2. Retell the main theme of a story in their own words. 3. Practice speaking extensively about an issue and sustain a three-minute conversation. 4. Discuss the merits and demerits of a controversial issue. 5. Dramatize a situation through a role-play. 6. Make short presentations about familiar topics of interest. 7. Use a wide range of vocabulary pertinent to the topics covered in the course. 8. Enunciate clearly enough to be understood 60% of the time. . Course title: Oral Communication for Young Learners (2nd Preparatory) . Term duration: 2 Weeks Schedule: 3 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session Assessments and Attendance: Two continual assessments are used throughout the course on speaking skills to measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The course final grade is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures.
