SELC 101 - Classroom Assessment-Arabic
The course is Self-paced/Instructor led, designed to empower teachers with the fundamental knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to manage classroom assessment to enhance student learning. The overall aim of this course is to link classroom assessment to instruction. Accordingly, it focuses on the main concepts of assessment and assessment quality, the types and purposes of classroom assessments, the methods and strategies used to assess learning, and the decisions that may be taken by teachers in light of classroom assessment practices. The course outcomes are aligned with the Standards for Teacher Competence in Educational Assessment of Students (AFT, NCME, NEA, 1990) and Classroom Assessment Standards for PreK-12 Teachers (The Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation, 2015).

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. explain the key concepts of assessment;
2. give examples of the decisions made by teachers before, during and after the teaching process in light of the results of sound assessments;
3. give examples of the decisions made by teachers about students in light of the results of sound assessments;
4. distinguish the principles of quality assessment;
5. describe the strategies used to achieve the principles of quality assessment;
6. evaluate the impacts of the violations of the principles of quality assessment;
7. write specific learning outcomes using Bloom’s taxonomy;
8. explain the benefits of linking classroom assessment to learning outcomes;
9. explain the different types of classroom assessments and their purposes;
10. plan for classroom assessments;
11. design assessment tools;
12. explain the characteristics of effective classroom feedback;
13. differentiate various questioning techniques;
14. explain the key differences between performance- and portfolio-based assessment;
15. write appropriate performance tasks;
16. construct a holistic and analytic rubric for a performance assessment task;
17. explain the importance of grading classroom assessment;
18. interpret classroom assessment scores; and
19. report classroom assessment scores

Admission Requirements for the above certificate(s):
1. Applicants must have basic Computer Literacy
2. University Degree.

Mode of delivery:
Self-Paced/Instructor-led

Term duration: 6 Weeks
Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed throughout the term by case studies, quizzes, assignments, activities, discussions, reflection essays, projects, or other means of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures and the final project or test. All assessments must be submitted as per the scheduled deadline announced in each course.
