ARBF 101 - Arabic Grammar 1
Remedial survey of the lexicon, morphology, syntax and style of modern formal written Arabic conventions.
Prerequisite(s): None.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course learners will be able to:
1. Name the different parts of speech in formal Arabic.
2. Construct different sentence types.
3. Classify marked and unmarked syntactic relationships.
4. Use Arabic case grammar.
5. Employ established orthographic conventions.
6. Apply gender agreement conventions in production of Arabic compound numbers.
7. Classify between lexical variants.
8. Select derivational patterns of Arabic.
9. Produce derivational patterns of Arabic.

Part of the Foundation Certificate in Translation and Interpreting..

Admission Requirements for the above certificate:
Applicants must pass the Arabic Proficiency Test (APT) or The Online Arabic Admission Test (OAAT) with a score of 60%.
• Test result will be (Exempted – Not Exempted)
• Learners who are not exempted must take ARBF101 - Arabic Grammar - as an additional required course in the Foundation Certificate .

Term duration: 6 weeks

Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or other means of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures and the final test.
Final course grades are NOT based on attendance, since in accordance with SCE’s attendance policy, learners must attend at least 75% of the class sessions in order to be allowed to take the final examination.
