STMA 302 - Project in Media Translation
This course consolidates learners’ skills in translating media texts—from Arabic into English and vice versa. The course builds up the competencies of learners to give a professionally acceptable rendering into the target language (TL) in media areas. Every learner should submit two translated texts: one into English and another into Arabic; each text is approximately 500 words long.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1.Analyze a text.
2.Identify the main features of main media text types (editorial, article, feature story, blog, etc.).
3.Identify pitfalls of the chosen text.
4.Compile a glossary in order to facilitate translating the text.
5.Consult and document reliable sources used.
6.Apply techniques of media translation to competent standards.
7.Revise their own rendering.
8.Self-edit the final version of the text.

Prerequisite Course:
Completion of the:
-Media Editing in English and in Arabic (STMA301)

Term duration: 12 Weeks
Schedule: 1 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or other means of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures and the final test. Final course grades are NOT based on attendance, since in accordance with SCE’s attendance policy, learners MUST attend at least 75 percent of the class sessions in order to be allowed to take the final examination.
