STMA 301 - Media Editing in English and Arabic
A 2-unit hands-on training course on how would-be media translators can improve the translation final product. The course allows the learner to intensively practice self-editing the translated version; and observe the factors a professional editor will focus on, such as grammaticalness, patterns of usage and stylistic competence.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1-Observe the main features of Arabic and English.
2-Avoid common language errors.
3-Preclude any "foreign accent" that often results from the process of inter-lingual transfer.
4-Observe the genius of both English and Arabic.
5-Observe the professional touches of a competent translator/editor.
6-Incorporate editing and proofreading as part of the translation final process.
7-Produce a rendering that is error-free, clear, adhering to original composition in both English and Arabic and is correctly formatted.

Prerequisite Course:
Completion of the:
1.Journalistic Translation into Arabic (STMA 201)
2.Journalistic Translation into English (STMA 202)
3.Audiovisual into Arabic (STMA 203)
4.Audiovisual into English (STMA 204)

Term duration: 12 Weeks
Schedule: 1 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Term duration: 6 Weeks
Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or other means of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures and the final test. Final course grades are NOT based on attendance, since in accordance with SCE’s attendance policy, learners MUST attend at least 75 percent of the class sessions in order to be allowed to take the final examination.
