STLU 204 - Economic Translation
This course aims at introducing the learners to the various texts in economics such as balance sheets, business reports and business correspondence with the intention to analyze their linguistic features and learn how to render their meaning as well as linguistic features between English and Arabic.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of this course, learners will be able to
1. describe basic concepts of economics, finance and commerce;
2. differentiate between linguistic features of Arabic and English economic texts;
3. identify the terminology used in economics, finance and commerce;
4. use the terminology of economics, finance and commerce;
5. identify the genre-specific features of economics, finance and commerce;
6. use strategies for translating economic texts into Arabic/English;
7. translate accurately economic texts into Arabic/English;and
8. revise and edit an economic text translated into Arabic/English.

Admission Requirements for the above certificate(s):
1. Applicants must be university graduates (could be waived on a case-by-case basis) .
2. Completion of the Foundation Certificate in Translation and Interpreting.

Term duration: 12 Weeks
Schedule: 1 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or other means of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures and the final test. Final course grades are NOT based on attendance, since in accordance with SCE’s attendance policy, learners must attend at least 75 percent of the class sessions in order to be allowed to take the final examination.
