SLEA 100 - Online English for Academic Purposes
Course Description:
This course uses the “process writing” method to guide learners through the prewriting stage, such as brainstorming and organizing thoughts. Students will be guided through the writing stage by creating drafts, and the post-writing stage through revising, and reflecting. The goal is to produce a variety of paragraph types crafted into a complete example of the most commonly submitted academic writing essays in order to demonstrate mastery of the conventions of academic writing. The course will also introduce learners to the techniques needed to avoid plagiarism.

Course Pre-requisites
1. ENGG B1A on the SEPT
2. Completion of ENGG A2D
3. The equivalent of CEFR B2 level in IELTS/TOEFL

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Apply pre-writing techniques for generating ideas
2. Use appropriate academic vocabulary and style
3. Employ complex sentence structure
4. Write effective and coherent paragraphs
5. Use appropriate transitions to begin and end ideas, paragraphs, and other segments of written text
6. Write a 5-paragraph analysis/take-a-stand (persuasive) academic essay
