STSI 302 - Advanced Problem Solving in Simultaneous Interpreting |
This course develops learners’ ability to overcome advanced problems encountered in real life simultaneous interpreting situations. Moreover, it builds on simultaneous interpreting skills learners have already acquired in STSI 202. The course focuses on the ability to interpret with a high degree of precision in fluent language and professional voice. Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will develop advanced interpreting strategies and fine-tune their interpreting skills.
Part of the: Professional Diploma in Simultaneous Interpreting Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, learners will be able to 1. Interpret simultaneously a 15-20 minute technical oral text; 2. Demonstrate confidence through voice clarity and precision when interpreting; 3. Provide speech fillers; 4. Use appropriate style; 5. Use “lag and lead” techniques; 6. Interpret simultaneously a 20-25 minute technical oral text; 7. Overcome different obstacles encountered in real life simultaneous interpreting situations (accent/dialect, speed, intricacy of the subject matter, and working conditions) ; 8. Demonstrate mastery of specialist terminology; and; 9. Interpret simultaneously a 25-30 minute technical oral text; Translation Competencies: 1. Language competency; 2. Intercultural competency; 3. Ethical competency; Admission Requirements for the above certificate(s): • STSI202 Simultaneous Interpreting. Term duration: 12 Weeks Schedule: 1 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session Or Term duration: 6 Weeks Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session Assessments and Attendance: Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or other means of evaluation.
