STLU 203 - UN Translation
This course is survey-type course in UN field-specific terminology: general, political, diplomatic, legal and economic; overview of documentary translation. Part of the:The Professional Diploma in Legal and UN Translation Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, learners will be able to 1. identify main features of UN writing style; 2. use the established translation conventions for international agreements, conventions, treaties and covenants; 3. use Arabic unifying terminology in different fields; 4. use the Arabic equivalents given in Manual for Arabic Translators particularly for the state-of-the-art terminology; 5. use internationally established abbreviations and acronyms; 6. use the official names of countries and cities; 7. translate UN documents;and 8. revise and edit UN translated documents. Admission Requirements for the above certificate(s): 1. Applicants must be university graduates (could be waived on a case-by-case basis) . 2. Completion of the Foundation Certificate in Translation and Interpreting. Term duration: 12 Weeks Schedule: 1 Session/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session Or Term duration: 6 Weeks Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session Assessments and Attendance: Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or other means of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performance in the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on continual assessment measures and the final test.
