CTFL 100 - The Career Certification in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language
The Career certification in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (CCTAFL) is a 60-hour pre-service certificate of intensive Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Spoken Arabic of Cairo (SAC). This hands-on teacher training program introduces Arabic language instructors to best practices, knowledge and skills in the areas of communicative teaching, learner centered approach, active learning, lesson planning, presentation skills, language acquisition, production techniques besides assessment of language proficiency and achievement level. The program is designed to provide trainees with intensive teaching practice sessions in order to develop self and peer assessment skills. The certificate discusses the following modules :

1. Introduction: Principles and Concepts:
a. Communication as an Educational Objective
b. Learner-Centered Teaching and Feedback
c. Using Questions for Discovery and Using Grammar for Communication
d. Learning Objectives and Reference Frameworks
e. Selecting and Connecting Textbooks to Reference Frameworks

2. Teaching Preparation:
a. Instructional Technology and Multimedia
b. Teaching Methods and Presentation Skills
c. Lesson Planning
•Lesson Planning (for Beginners)
•Lesson Planning (from Intermediate to Advanced levels) – Receptive Skills: Reading & Listening
•Lesson Planning (from Intermediate to Advanced levels) – Productive Skills: Writing
•Lesson Planning - Productive Skills: Speaking Colloquial Arabic

Admission Requirements for the above certificate(s):
•Applicants must be university graduates (a copy of the bachelor’s degree is required at the time of admission.
•Passing the Proficiency Test in Modern Standard Arabic (TMSA).
•Successfully passing Proficiency Test in Modern Standard Arabic (TMSA) and the Proficiency Test in the Spoken Arabic of Cairo (TSAC) for non-native speakers of Arabic.
•Applicants must have basic computer literacy.

Term duration: 4 - 5 Weeks
Schedule: 4 sessions/week – 3 hrs./session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed according to in and post-class activities. Final course grades are NOT based on attendance, since in accordance with SCE’s attendance policy, learners must attend at least 75% of the class sessions in order to be allowed to take the final examination.
