ETLS 400 - English for Math and Science
This is the first of six levels that constitute the Career Certificate Math and Science Teacher Training. It provides a solid language foundation for the following teacher training component of the certificate. The course is intended and designed to help learners develop their individual competence in the four language skills. It introduces learners to the English used for communication in Science and Math so that they can use it in written and oral presentations.

Learning outcomes: By the end of this certificate, the candidate can do the following:
• Use suitable language functions needed for teaching mathematics and science.
• Demonstrate oral and written use of basic scientific and mathematical jargon
• Articulate scientific and mathematical concepts, ideas, charts, and graphs accurately in English

Admission Requirements for the above certificate(s):
• Applicants must be university graduates (a copy of the bachelor’s degree is required at time of admission).
• Applicants must pass the Standardized English Proficiency Test (SEPT Level ENGGB1A ).
• Applicants must have basic computer literacy.

Term duration: 6 Weeks
Schedule: 2 Sessions/week - 2.5 Hrs/Session

Assessments and Attendance:
Learners are assessed throughout the term by tests, quizzes, assignments, projects or othermeans of evaluation. End-of-term achievement tests measure learners’ overall performancein the course. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance oncontinual assessment measures and the final test.
Final course grades are NOT based on attendance, since in accordance with SCE’s attendance policy, learners must attend at least 75% of the class sessions in order to be allowed to take the final examination.

Notes: All learners are required to meet, at least one time, with their class instructors during the first week of classes (7 working days of add/drop)
