ENGG A2D - English for Effective Communication A2D

Target Audience:  

Learners lacking the basic ability to communicate in English, and who may need help to acquire that basic ability.

 

Course/Program Pre-requisites (if any):

  1. Pass ENGG A2C

 

Course/Program Description:

Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to meet their language needs in order to interact in structured situations and communicate using simple sentences and high-frequency words. They will read and understand short texts related to everyday life. They will also be able to write a series of simple sentences to describe people and/or events. The course is the fourth and final level of the A2 stage of the CEFR.

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. use key food vocabulary in speaking and writing.
  2. ask and answer questions about traditional dishes from different cultures.
  3. recommend and discuss favorite dishes, including comfort foods and their personal significance.
  4. discuss how different foods affect mood, including the causes and effects of being hungry.
  5. write short paragraphs about food, including recipes and memories, with correct grammar and pronoun use.
  6. utilize social media vocabulary accurately in both spoken and written contexts.
  7. formulate questions and express opinions during group discussions on various topics.
  8. use descriptive language to explain and evaluate life hacks, including writing coherent review paragraphs.
  9. ask and answer questions using the second conditional for imaginary scenarios, including collaborative chain stories.
  10. evaluate ways to spend money and discuss the consequences of different choices.
  11. express and justify opinions about money and happiness in group discussions and debates.
  12. write stories about the impact of money on happiness, using relevant vocabulary and specific events.
  13. identify and discuss a range of job-related skills and responsibilities.
  14. ask and answer questions about job skills and responsibilities, and write descriptive paragraphs about specific jobs.
  15. engage in discussions to reach agreement on the most important job skills and compare job preferences for remote or office work.
  16. present decisions and preferences clearly, providing supporting reasons.
  17. connect ideas in speech and writing using appropriate transition words.
  18. explain the seriousness of various social problems and suggest solutions.
  19. write and discuss short texts describing social problems and possible solutions.
  20. create and discuss engaging fake news headlines and stories using the passive voice.
  21. discuss opinions and reactions to fake news and social media stories.
  22. express opinions, identify problems, and negotiate solutions related to social media.
  23. summarize key findings from data in short reports, using figures and estimation phrases.
  24. describe key environmental problems and use relevant vocabulary related to plastic pollution and climate change.
  25. participate in group campaign roleplays to raise awareness about environmental issues, including creating slogans and logos.
  26. write short texts explaining the causes of climate change and suggesting solutions for individuals and governments.
  27. share ideas and express personal opinions and experiences about environmental problems and actions.
  28. ask and answer questions about environmental issues using target vocabulary.
