ENGG A2C - English for Effective Communication A2C

Target Audience:

Learners lacking the basic ability to communicate in English, and who may need help to acquire that basic ability

 

Course/Program Pre-requisites (if any):

  1. Pass ENGG A2B / ENGG A2C on the SEPT

 

Course/Program Description:

Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to meet their language needs in order to interact in structured situations and communicate using simple sentences and high-frequency words. They will read and understand short texts related to everyday life. They will also be able to write a series of simple sentences to describe people and/or events. The course is the third of the A2 stage of the CEFR.

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. identify and describe common personality traits associated with various jobs or professions.
  2. use comparative and superlative forms of adjectives to compare and contrast personality traits and different job candidates.
  3. compare different job candidates based on various factors and select the most suitable one, expressing personal opinions and justifying choices.
  4. use appropriate adjectives to describe people's physical appearance and personality traits.
  5. engage in conversations about meeting and admiring celebrities, and write well-structured paragraphs describing favorite celebrities using appropriate vocabulary and reasons.
  6. use appropriate vocabulary and expressions to describe cities, towns, and villages, including adjectives to express opinions.
  7. write emails about where they live, including location, characteristics, and personal likes and dislikes.
  8. identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a city, town, or village.
  9. effectively present information about a city, town, or village, including key features, attractions, and quality of life.
  10. engage in collaborative discussions on work-life balance, utilize relevant vocabulary, and write advice emails using modal verbs and conditional sentences.
  11. identify and discuss different skills and abilities required for various jobs.
  12. express preferences and abilities in work-related discussions, including role play scenarios suggesting suitable jobs based on preferences and abilities.
  13. utilize phrases and structures to discuss job skills, tasks, and responsibilities, including modal verbs.
  14. collaborate in teams to write survey reports about classmates' abilities and preferences at work.
  15. demonstrate understanding of news-related vocabulary and past tenses by writing and role-playing news stories, and collaborate in groups to conduct interviews and gather information.
  16. demonstrate understanding of vocabulary related to life experiences, using the present perfect tense to talk about life experiences and engage in conversations.
  17. write short travel blog posts or diary entries describing memorable travel experiences using the present perfect tense.
  18. express movie genre preferences, discuss movie plots, and write movie reviews using appropriate vocabulary and narrative tenses.
  19. express opinions clearly and confidently, using appropriate vocabulary and expressions.
  20. understand and express different opinions about education issues, supporting ideas with reasons.
  21. analyze and discuss specific problems in education, express different opinions, and collaboratively brainstorm and write about problems and solutions.
  22. have polite and helpful conversations by listening carefully, considering different ideas, and responding respectfully.
  23. brainstorm and write about education problems and potential solutions.
  24. identify and evaluate the pros and cons of specific aspects of technology, discuss features and benefits of devices, and communicate ideas persuasively.
  25. write balanced paragraphs presenting advantages and disadvantages of technology and its impact on society.
  26. engage in role-play scenarios as salespeople and clients to promote and inquire about gadgets, using appropriate vocabulary and expressions related to technology and gadgets
