ENGG A2A - English for Effective Communication A2A

Course Description: Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to meet their language needs in order to interact in structured situations and communicate using simple sentences and high-frequency words. They will read and understand short texts related to everyday life. They will also be able to write a series of simple sentences to describe people and/or events. The course is the third of the A1 stage of the CEFR.

 

Overall Course Learning Outcomes:

 By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. engage in conversations with classmates about birthday celebrations and birthday party plans using appropriate vocabulary.
  2. ask and answer questions, including follow-up questions, about birthday celebrations and party details.
  3. use vocabulary related to birthdays and birthday parties accurately in discussions and descriptions.
  4. write complete sentences describing birthday celebrations.
  5. use 'will' to discuss and share future plans related to party planning.
  6. employ appropriate phrases to offer, accept, and refuse help during conversations about organizing a party.
  7. form accurate phrases using the -ing form of verbs to describe different ways of helping.
  8. write a short email responding to an offer of help with party preparations.
  9. engage in a conversation about street food.
  10. write an email to a friend about street food.
  11. use simple sentences to describe the qualities of a good friend. 
  12. write a thank-you card to a friend.
  13. engage in a dialogue about reconnecting with friends.
  14. share personal stories about friendship experiences.
  15. write a story about helping a friend. 
  16. describe past events using past continuous and past simple tenses.
  17. ask and respond to simple questions about emotions in conversations.
  18. describe personal experiences and feelings using words that express strong or weak emotions.
  19. write a paragraph describing a positive feeling.
  20. practice speaking about negative emotions and give simple advice on managing them.
  21. write a short message with money tips.
  22. talk about financial habits and share money tips in conversation.
  23. express strong positive or negative feelings.
  24. use basic descriptive vocabulary about nature and survival and describe survival situations using simple past tense.
  25. write survival rules to do or not to do on a deserted island and provide spoken warnings and safety instructions in survival scenarios.
  26. describe and discuss clothing choices in group conversations. 
  27. write an email describing an event and what you were wearing.
  28. give compliments about someone’s outfit.
