Target Audience: Learners lacking the basic ability to communicate in English, and who may need help to acquire that basic ability. Course Pre-requisites (if any): Completion of ENGG A1C Course Description: Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to construct a foundation for their English language proficiency by understanding instructions addressed to them carefully and slowly. They will also be able to follow short, simple directions and write their personal details. Moreover, they will be able to understand and produce short, simple messages and texts about everyday topics. The course is the fourth in the A1 “Survival English” stage. Overall Course Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, learners will be able to: 1. identify vocabulary related to various contexts such as meeting people, emails, travel, measurements, hobbies, items, job-related terms, renting, and saving/spending. 2. recognize basic grammar structures like question types (wh-questions and yes/no questions), imperatives, and verb forms (can/can’t). 3. extract key details from texts such as emails and blog posts. 4. understand spoken language in contexts like airport experiences and job discussions. 5. answer comprehension questions related to audio clips and reading passages effectively. 6. engage in different conversations, like introducing themselves, discussing hobbies, and giving information about work. 7. ask and answer questions in various situations, like asking for details, and showing interest in conversations. 8. use polite language, give and receive compliments, and engage in discussions about
