ENGG A1C - Survival English A1C

Target Audience:

Learners lacking the basic ability to communicate in English, and who may need help to acquire that basic ability.

 

Course Pre-requisites (if any):

ENGG A1C on the SEPT

 

Course Description:

Utilizing learner-centered methodology and task-based instruction, learners will be able to construct a foundation for their English language proficiency by understanding instructions addressed to them carefully and slowly. They will also be able to follow short, simple directions and write their personal details. Moreover, they will be able to understand and produce short, simple messages and texts about everyday topics. The course is the third in the A1 “Survival English” stage.

 

Overall Course Learning Outcomes:

 

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

 

  1. engage in conversations to discuss their interests.
  2. express preferences, and opinions.
  3. talk about experiences.
  4. discuss daily routines, special days, and celebrations.
  5. talk about living spaces, weather, and health.
  6. use appropriate vocabulary and expressions to discuss varied topics including animals, and future technology.
  7. use grammatical structures (e.g., present simple, present continuous, past simple) naturally in spoken and written forms to describe activities, events, and conditions.
  8. write paragraphs on various topics, such as describing rooms and dream homes.
  9. write emails more effectively describing topics like daily routines, special days, discussing seasonal activities and preferences.
  10. write correspondences addressing health issues and medical advice.
  11. express in writing opinions about various topics including pets, weather, and future technology.
  12. use transitional words and phrases (e.g., "next," "then," "after that") to organize ideas and illustrate the order of events in both speaking and writing.
  13. formulate and respond to questions about personal experiences related to daily life, health, and celebrations.
  14. recognize key vocabulary related to daily routines, celebrations, living spaces, weather, health problems, animals, and future technology in texts and conversations.
  15. extract main ideas and key details from audio recordings and texts on these topics.
  16. answer comprehension questions related to audio clips and reading passages effectively.
  17. identify descriptions of different holidays, living arrangements, health perspectives, and technological advancements from around the world.
  18. identify sentence patterns and grammatical structures (e.g., verb forms, articles, and adjectives) used in listening and reading activities.
