Learning Outcomes

Overall Course Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

 

1.     identify and use key vocabulary related to various topics such as leisure activities and movies.

2.     identify and use key vocabulary related to various topics such as friendship, city life, and transportation.

3.     identify and use key vocabulary related to various topics such as sports, healthy eating, and hotel stays.

4.     identify and use key vocabulary related to various topics such as vacations, holidays, and dining out.

5.     extract main ideas and key details from audio recordings and texts on these topics.

6.     answer comprehension questions related to audio clips and reading passages effectively.

7.     ask and answer questions about likes and dislikes.

8.     describe healthy and unhealthy habits.

9.     describe personal habits using adverbs of frequency

10. make polite requests and inquiries using expressions like "would like" in both spoken and written forms.

11. demonstrate effective communication skills in a hotel setting, including greeting, inquiring, and making requests.

12. ask and answer questions about past events using verbs in the past simple.

13. use present simple tense to describe how they spend their free time.

14. write full sentences on how they spend their leisure time using correct language.

15. express their likes and dislikes about movies and TV shows.

16. use the present continuous tense to describe actions.

17. provide advice or recommendations using modal verbs (e.g., should/shouldn't) appropriately in writing.

18. describe people in terms of their physical appearance, clothing, and other details.

19. engage in conversations using appropriate vocabulary and expressions to discuss their interests, preferences, experiences, and opinions related to the course themes.

20. write paragraphs or emails more effectively on various topics such as describing leisure activities, favorite movies, friendships, city events, transportation, sports preferences, healthy habits, hotel stays, past vacations, and dining experiences.

Assessments and Attendance:

Learners are assessed throughout the term.  There will be 10% of the grade on listening & reading activities on the Learning Management System (LMS). Two continual assessments on speaking and another two on writing. The final grade in each course is based on learners’ performance on the four continual assessments and the listening & reading activities on the LMS.

According to SCE’s attendance policy, learners MUST attend at least 75% of the class sessions (9 sessions) to be promoted to the next course.

Attendance: All learners must attend at least 75% of the class sessions or class hours. Failure to do so will result in failure of the course, although the learner will be allowed to attend classes.
